LEO VINE-KNIGHT
The
author has worked in mental health units around the U.K.
for over twelve years and has a Ph.D. in Mental Health Studies.
He now lives in the North of England with his wife and two children.
During
his time with psychiatric rehabilitation services he became
increasingly concerned that mental health care often emphasised
individual rights at the expense of social responsibilities.
Individualised care programmes could be so self-orientated
that 'patients' often developed long-term sick roles,
becoming over-dependent on psychiatric treatments
and state welfare institutions.
